Type Specimen book

So my current in Graphic Design is a Type Specimen book of one of my personal favorite typefaces Garamond. I'm doing Adobe Garamond to be specific (includign Adobe Garamond expert). I am rather excited about the project.

When I first started investigating this typeface I was stuck with unlimited was to present it because it's very commonly used, especially in books! You may recognize it in the America editions of Harry Potter or Some of Dr. Suess's books.

I eventually ended up on an excursions to two Indiana Universities fabulous rescoures: Fine Arts Library, and the Lilly Library. I went through ideas of the typeface being a ressurection of a Claude Garamond's design during the French rennisance so I thought, "maybe a book about rennaisance faire? aka modern rennaisance." But that seems too blase to me, and didn't particularly excite me. Anthony White, who is incharge of the Fine Arts Library (I don't know his full title), said a subtle pun. I giggled because well I am way too amused at puns and though puns would be fun. But a book of puns would be annoying to most so it eventually evolved to comedy types. So I began sketching.

So far my layout it that of a series of spread. the top of the page a stage where the type literally becomes the players in my various types of comedy. In the "house" of my spread is the information text sett into four colomns for each page. The left page for Information about the typeface. The right side about the comedy type. The wonder of this system is that the margins and gutters act as aisles in my make shift theatre book. I'm pretty proud of it.

So far I'm trying to parallel the type information against the comedy info. For example, on the parody spread I woudl also talk about versions of garamond that loose the essence and beauty of the orginal typeface, but call themselves garamond. Additionaly the font will act, such as the italic will be Melodramic, reciting cliche phrases such as "Oh woe is me!" There won't be any imagery and the coloring will probably be minimal. The information will be ordered chronologically to present itself logicaly according to the history of the type.

My biggest obsitcle right now is what my title should be. Current leaders: Comedic Types, or Typecasting.

Any ideas my friends?
